Construction update

As of April 24, 2026 - As part of ongoing site preparation, work may resume as early as Monday to complete stump and log removal from previously cleared areas.

This work is part of the clean-up of earlier approved activity and does not involve the removal of additional trees.

Any remaining tree removals are currently on hold and will be coordinated with the City and project partners before proceeding.

Our Commitment

KCN is committed to providing the neighborhood with transparent information on the design of the project and ongoing impacts of construction.

  • We are pleased to share that Keaton's House has received final Site Plan Approval from the City, allowing us to break essential site preparation work.
  • The first phase of this work includes the installation of safety fencing and selective tree removal, in accordance with the City-approved plans.
  • Tree removal is underway and safety fencing will be erected in April 2026

Sawyer’s Story​

Sawyer was the first known case of DNM1, a rare neurological condition, in Canada. From the moment she was born, her parents, Karlee and Colin, did everything they could to fill her short life with love, care, and adventure.

When it was time to say goodbye, they created a hospice-like space in their home so that Sawyer could be surrounded by the people who loved her most.

Now, they’re sharing their story to help us build Keaton’s House – so other families can have that same comfort, connection, and support when it matters most.

2018: A Dream Begins

Kemp Care Network begins shaping the vision for a children’s hospice in South-Central Ontario, working with families, healthcare professionals, and community leaders to imagine a space built for comfort, connection, and care.

2022: Campaign Launch

With a $5 million lead gift from the Paul Paletta Foundation, Kemp Care Network officially launches a $25 million capital campaign to bring Keaton’s House to life.

2023: Land Secured

The City of Hamilton approves a long-term lease for municipally owned land at 41 South St. W. in Dundas, making it the future home of Keaton’s House.

May 2024: Official Ceremonial Groundbreaking

With over 60% of the campaign goal raised, Keaton’s House officially breaks ground. Families, donors, and community leaders gathered at the site to celebrate this powerful step forward. The day’s emotion and energy were beautifully captured by Donna Waxman Photography.

2026: Construction Begins

Construction moves forward with family-focused details at the core. The design team at mcCallumSather shares their vision for a home-like, accessible space. 

Coming: The Official Grand Opening

Keaton’s House – Paul Paletta Children’s Hospice plans to welcome its first families, offering respite, grief support, and pediatric end-of-life care. The Government of Ontario’s investment confirms the province’s commitment to expanding children’s hospice services.
